Lou Koven retired from the Los Angeles Police Department after 30+ years as a Detective assigned to ‘BAD CATS’ which is the Commercial Auto Theft Section of the LAPD. He had citywide responsibility to investigate construction equipment thefts and was the co-winner of the 2006 ARA/NER national law enforcement award for work within the construction equipment rental industry.
In April of 2012, he joined the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) as a special agent and has been happily assigned to work with U.S. Customs and the CHP-FEAR at the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach. They have successfully interdicted numerous stolen vehicles, vessels, construction equipment, cargo and metal attempting to export out of the L.A./Long Beach Port.
He remains active in many theft investigative associations, such as WSATI, OCATI, IAATI and CMIA.
