March 19, 2020

Dear Recycling Community,

In light of increasing government restrictions on large gatherings and recommendations from global health organizations, ISRI has made the difficult decision to cancel ISRI2020, scheduled for next month in Las Vegas. Rescheduling, or even relocating, this flagship event proved simply impossible, which means that ISRI will be looking ahead to ISRI2021 in San Diego as the next large-scale annual convention and exhibition for our industry.

I understand the significance of ISRI’s convention in the annual cycle of our industry – it is a time to see old friends, to network, to see the latest innovations and trends in equipment and technology, to gain market insights from leading analysts, hear from industry experts on topics of importance to your operations, and, of course, conduct business with both old and new customers from all over the country … and the world. We are all very disappointed, but the safety and well-being of all involved is of most importance.

ISRI is already working on providing additional programming to help members deal with the economic, and health and safety concerns surround the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, ISRI will be virtually offering many of the same great educational programs that were to be offered at the convention. Please keep your eyes open for announcements that will be coming in the weeks ahead.

If you have already registered for ISRI2020, we will be contacting you by the end of next week regarding your payment and refund options.

If you were an exhibitor or sponsor of ISRI2020, you will be hearing from us individually over the course of the next 30 days to discuss options and opportunities.

I am grateful for everyone’s patience and understanding as we work diligently in the coming days and weeks to address everyone’s concerns and make sure all attendees are taken care of properly.

Be safe, and please stay healthy!!

Sincerely,
Robin

FAQs

Why did ISRI cancel the 2020 convention in Las Vegas?
Given that the World Health Organization (WHO) officially deemed this a pandemic, and in light of the many states declaring an emergency along with associated closures and curtailments of normal daily life, it is impossible for ISRI to hold the convention as planned.  Therefore, for the safety of all involved, we cannot move forward with the ISRI2020 convention in April of this year.

Will the convention be rescheduled for a later time in the year?
ISRI is currently reviewing all options for alternate dates and venues as well as different methods of information delivery.  Once we know our legitimate options we will provide further information.

Will registration fees for attendees be refunded?
ISRI’s standard refund policy has been suspended for the ISRI2020 program.  We need to process whether we will be offering alternate dates or different programs in order to know how to properly manage refund questions.  It is our plan to share refund options with all attendees by March 27.  We ask for your patience as we work through details.

If I had a hotel reservation, will that be cancelled on my behalf?
No, it is up to each individual attendee. Please contact your respective hotels to cancel you hotel room reservation. ISRI will not be responsible for any fees incurred due to not cancelling.

How does this impact the board and governance meetings?
The same circumstances that made the convention impossible this year apply to the governance meetings that were scheduled for April 25-27.   Announcements will be forthcoming for how our spring governance matters will be handled.  At present, no other national meetings have been affected.  ISRI’s Chapters are also reviewing their upcoming meetings schedule.  We encourage you to check the ISRI website for additional information.

Will other 2020 ISRI events be affected?
Not at this time. However, please continue to visit isri.org for updates on future ISRI conferences and events.Over the coming days and weeks—ISRI will be working to answer your questions and/or concerns. We appreciate your patience. For any additional questions, please contact ISRIConvention@isri.org.
